Diorskin Forever

Diorskin Forever Foundation Review
Before the Box

So I went to the White Rose shopping centre in Leeds to see Claire at the Chanel counter in Debenhams a few weeks ago. She gave me some great advice the last time I was there and helped me find a foundation that suited me. Unfortunately Claire was not there and I ended up not even being greeted by a member of staff. A girl was busy doing someone’s makeup and there was no one else there. I usually use the Chanel Vitalumière Aqua which you can read about here. However, because the rude woman at the Chanel counter couldn't even press a few buttons on a till for me to quickly buy a foundation. Even though I had already waited 10 minutes to even be spoken to and had told her I knew exactly what colour I needed and I had even bought my previous bottle from before with me for crying out loud! So I thought F U judgmental Jade. I stormed off to Dior, (may I mention I was PMSing like the ice queen of Narnia which probably made me over react slightly.).

Personally, I think Dior is better well known for their fabulous eye shadow palettes, beautiful bronzers and their infamous Airflash foundation spray. I really wanted to try the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation but I was made to hurry by my boyfriend nagging me to leave (love you) so I just went next door to Dior. Please comment if anyone has any reviews on this foundation! I went to the counter and I was greeted by a lovely warm sales assistant who matched the colour I needed by placing a skin colour iPhone looking tool to my neck to give an exact colour match. She asked me if I wanted a matte or dewy finish and regrettably I asked for matte. I did this because I had always previously used a dewy finish product and I find that you can create a beautiful natural glow with this type of foundation. But if I need more coverage a dewy foundation can give a sweaty light bulb kind of look. Not chic!

The Box

The packaging is as one would expect Dior makeup to look like; luxurious with attention to detail. Unfortunately, I must have thrown away the actual box that the foundation bottle comes in. The bottle has a frosted glass type of look and feel, quite heavy and feels sturdy. The lid is plastic and a rich navy colour with silver accents. The only problem I have with the packaging is that the square looking lid is actually rectangular so when I am in a rush and I put it on the wrong way it just falls off (kind of irritating and yes, I am knit picking). Then when it falls off you get foundation all over your makeup bag which is my absolute pet peeve. It has the type dispenser that no matter what you do and how careful you are with it, it still manages to just go all over! They are the only annoyances I have and like I said all knit picking really.

Out of the Box

The texture of the foundation feels creamy and hydrating from first application but the problem is what it looks like after 5 minutes when it really dries out, it just looks dull and almost makes my skin look worse than before applying. Unfortunately for me personally I really dislike this foundation. I had previously used the Chanel Vita Luminère see review here. The Chanel doesn't give as much coverage and isn't as buildable as the Dior but the Dior gives such an overpowering matte finish it just doesn't suit my skin. A matte foundation definitely suits an oilier skin more than dry skin. Don't get me wrong the foundation does have its advantages; it covers blemishes well and in certain light makes skin look completely flawless. I also have to mention the product is very long lasting, I can apply first thing in the morning and it will stay untouched until around 6ish. If you like to use heavier foundation for photos this is a great product for that, it does make skin look flawless and blemish free. However, when in daylight for me personally, I found blemishes are more highlighted than normal because my skin is being dried out so much. It can also cause dry skin on my T zone area and you may as well forget about using this on spots if you suffer from dry skin too. Unless you want to look like you ate pizza crust for breakfast. There is nothing worse than a dry spot, nothing.

I have tried to use this foundation with a variety of brushes and sponges, with different moisturisers and highlighters but nothing has worked for me. I cannot stress enough how much this is to do with my skin and the type of look that I like more than buying a poor product. I am sure this would look beautiful on oily skin, helping to control shine without having to use blotting sheets and creating a great slide proof base. I think I look out for wonder products that do everything and maybe I was expecting too much. Or maybe it's karma for the fact that the only reason why I went to Dior was because of the snobby b*tch at the Chanel counter with her judgmental smokey eye. I suppose she lost out on a £100 sale and I missed out on a glowing complexion; we are sort of even.

Overall, if I had to give a rating out of 10 it would be a 7 purely based on the fact that this foundation is clearly not for my skin type or product needs. I think this beauty buy is good quality for the price. It would be best suited to, like I've said before, someone with oily skin whose concerns are more dark circles under the eyes, buildable coverage, long lasting and heavy contour over anything else. This foundation costs £32, and you can buy here.
